Silversmith Jewellery Making Classes

I am going to be running silversmith jewellery making classes for beginners at Holton Lee. The artists' studios that I will be using are set in 350 acres of protected Dorset countryside including heathland, reedbeds and woodland - all great for creative inspiration! There's also plenty of free parking and there is a small kitchen next to the studio so I can make you all tea and coffee and you're welcome to bring snacks or lunch with you.

Westwind Air Bearings first for friendship at Holton Lee

A company can be judged by how it values the welfare and wellbeing of its staff, giving attention to its leisure time as much as its working day. A motivated, well-regarded staff tends to be more content – and more productive, benefitting all.

Westwind Air Bearings (Westwind), with its UK operation based at Holton Heath, near Poole in Dorset must be one such company.

People stare at bears in air at Holton Lee Summer Fair

All eyes were skyward on Saturday, 18th June 2011 ahead of Holton Lee’s Summer Fair, especially after the preceding day’s downpour.

Would anyone turn up? Was it to be a washout or a winner?

Despite a sharp shower or two in the afternoon, the worst of the weather seemed to skirt Holton Lee with sunshine – enough to cause the odd red nose and sunburnt bonce – and broken cloud as the order of the day.

And what a day it turned out to be...

New adult education hub in Dorset

Tutors required for a joint Holton Lee–Workers’ Educational Association partnership.

At a time when many organisations are reducing services offered, news of an expansion of services makes a welcome change.

A new partnership between Holton Lee and the Workers’ Educational Association (WEA) has seen significant interest in the first batch of courses – beginning this weekend (see below for more details) – and more tutors are required to ensure continued growth.

To bring non-formal education to as wide an audience as possible, Holton Lee is seeking people with particular expertise in the arts and the environment to help develop this new adult education hub for Dorset.

A novel take on recycling glass

As a landmark, Holton Lee’s Greenhouse – an expansion of its Ashtree Cottage Garden – does not quite equal the former glories of the Crystal Palace. As a landmark of the development of Holton Lee, it’s beyond compare.

Opened on April 6th, 2011 by Mrs Sara Weld of Lulworth Estate, which kindly donated the Greenhouse, Roger Johns of RJ Developments and Holton Lee estate worker Stewart Cull, the Greenhouse adds 93m² of accessible, covered space for horticulture therapy.

Impact Art Fair - The first national marginalised art fair in the UK

What is the Impact Art Fair?

The Impact Art Fair is envisaged as being an annual, high profile event, well advertised and attended by estimated 2,500 visitors. Although similar if not equal in quality to mainstream fairs such as Affordable and Frieze, it will display works only by socially excluded arts practitioners. These will be mostly relatively unknown but could include some more well known artists too.

*Marginalised/disabled = those with mental health problems, physical and learning disabilities, homeless people, substance misusers, ex-offenders, and the long term unemployed.
