Iron Age Roundhouse rebuild complete

Young people volunteering with BTCV in Dorset were continuing to learn new skills whilst rebuilding the Iron Age Roundhouse at Holton Lee in 2008. The work was part of a project called MySpaceOurSpace which uses funding from the Veolia Environmental Trust and John Laing to enable young people to enhance community spaces in the places they live.

Local professionals were brought in to teach the group about traditional skills such as hazel weaving, thatching and daubing. The young people then had the chance to practice these skills with a little guidance from the staff at BTCV and Holton Lee.

Early on in the project the young people had discussions with Holton Lee about how they could help, they then took the lead themselves in implementing each project aim. The Roundhouse was identified as an area in need of attention and a great deal of time and effort was dedicated to it.

The Roundhouse is now complete, and it looks amazing in the landscape. The MYSpaceOurSpace project continues to bring positive development to the young people and significant benefit to Holton Lee.
