The First Holton Lee Disability Arts Competitive Exhibition
PRESS RELEASE The First Holton Lee Disability Arts Competitive Exhibition The first Holton Lee Disability Arts Competitive Exhibition has attracted an international response. Sixteen artists exhibiting 23 works will be displayed in this major showcase at Faith House Gallery, Holton Lee between the 20 January and 10 March 2007.Two prizes in the form of a week residency worth over £500 will be awarded to artists from two categories. In addition to visiting the exhibition in the first week, gallery goers will have the opportunity to vote for the People’s Choice Award. The winners of this category and the Judge’s Choice will be announced at the Private View on Saturday 27 January. Tony Heaton, Director of Arts and Environment at Holton Lee said: “We expect this Open Competitive Exhibition to become a regular event and as our ambition to create the first ever National Disability Arts Collection and Archive (NDACA) becomes a reality we hope that the standard of work on show will nurture debate about quality and development within the field of Disability Arts”
PRESS RELEASE Two winners were selected following the private view last Saturday 27th January of the first Holton Lee Disability Arts Competitive Exhibition. The Judges choice was Jonathan Adams from Portsmouth and the Peoples choice was Rachel Gadsden from London. Both winning artists win a weeks residency of studio time and accommodation at Holton Lee. In addition four highly commended certificates were given to Colin Hambrook from Brighton, Angela Edmonds from Watford, Steve Cooper from Poole and Richard Bizley from Lyme Regis. The exhibition attracted an international response with sixteen artists exhibiting 23 works displayed in this major showcase at Faith House Gallery, Holton Lee runs until 10 March 2007. Tony Heaton, Director of Arts and Environment at Holton Lee said: “It was a packed private view with a great atmosphere which demonstrates the interest in Disability Arts, we are proud to be hosting yet another thought provoking exhibition in the Faith House Gallery.” NB. Faith House Gallery is open 9 – 5 Monday – Saturday please call first to avoid disappointment as the gallery is sometimes used for private functions.
