Portraits of Larchfield

Private View Invite Card for Portraits From Larchfield

PRESS RELEASE

“Portraits From Larchfield” by Matt Burgess

Matt Burgess is showing his work as the first of a two part touring exhibition at Faith House, Holton Lee, Dorset from 9th January – 24th February 2006. The open view is on Saturday 4th February from 11.30 – 13.30.

The exhibition is a series of documentary portraits from a unique community near Middlesbrough called Larchfield. As part of the ‘Camphill Village Trust’ Larchfield provides opportunities for adults with special needs. Known collectively as Community Members these individuals have made a choice to live and work in this unique environment. This exhibition, ‘Portraits From Larchfield’ is a showcase of the resulting images, which aim to be intimate and emotive.

Matt is currently based in the Bournemouth area and specialises in environmental portraits and contemporary landscapes. He is a graduate of the award winning Foundation Degree in Professional Photography from the Arts Institute Bournemouth and as such is interested in critical commercial photography. His last exhibition was as a member of ‘PEEP’ (peep2005.com) at the Association of Photographers Gallery in London.

Of his work he writes…

“As a photographer I am interested in realism, in people and how they interact with each other, the world we live in, and me. I am drawn to individuals’ small stories and the visual consequences of them, how these stories manifest themselves in our landscapes and how these realities are represented through the photograph.

It is universally accepted that photography is a poor medium for portraying the truth. As such my photography is a personal subjective representation. My work aims to be honest, literal and visually stimulating, therefore, a fair example of a photographic encounter".

The exhibition moves to The Larchfield Community in spring 2006.
