PRESS RELEASE
All Lit up at Holton Lee Local and national artists respond to the theme of Light in a group exhibition to celebrate Dorset Arts Weeks (DAW) at Faith House, Holton Lee, Poole from Saturday 24 May. The charity also has four artist studios, which will be open across DAW until the 8th June, showing a wide range of visual arts and techniques. ‘First Dream’ a group of local artists, will be producing photography and film based work in studio 1, to support the installation in the Gallery at Faith House. Printmaking will be taking place in studio 2 and contemporary visual artists will be exhibiting works in the studios and adjacent common room. The exhibition consists of painting, film installation, sculpture and photography and includes Paul Cade’s sculpture ‘Light Being’ (see image), a life size cast of the artist, which uses fibre optics to illuminate the sculpture creating an aura of light surrounding it. Bournemouth based artist and DAW regular Abi Kremer will be showing a collection of abstract works as part of an ongoing project inspired by the natural environment at Holton Lee. Trish Wheatley, curator explained that “Holton Lee is dedicated to promoting the work of disabled artists and Dorset Art Weeks is a good opportunity for attracting a wider audience to the Disability Arts movement. It’s also a good time for all the artists associated with us and our artist studios to showcase their work. It’s an interesting and exciting exhibition and one which I hope audiences will come and enjoy.” ‘Light’ runs from the 24 May to 2 August, with a ‘meet the artists’ opening event on the Saturday 31 May 1.30pm – 3.30pm, all welcome.
