Dance Aware
PRESS RELEASE Moving The Line Moving The Line, an exhibition of performance photography by Paul Marks, concept by Dance Aware, the diversity dance company - showing at The Gallery at Faith House, Holton Lee, Poole from the 4th October 2008. The cutting edge of Disability Arts and Dance is captured in this selection of stunning photographs to establish the value of archiving performance. The exhibition focuses on the ‘Moving the Line’ cross regional showcase for disabled adults during spring this year at Bath University, highlighting the need for disabled artists to show and see one another’s work. Also featured is a documentary film which raises issues of the role of the disability artist in the mainstream art world. The launch event - 4th October begins with a free dance workshop with Dance Aware, Michael Mitchell 2 – 3.30pm, open to all abilities. The workshop ‘Captured movement set free’ explores stillness, limitation and freedom and will allow participants to directly experience integrated movement. It will put the works on display into context. From 4.30– 6.30pm a live interview with Michael Mitchell and performance photographer Paul Marks, opens the exhibition. “The photos are not mere records, they have a charisma of their own. A surreal quality which makes a double statement. The performance deals with what can be seen, these images touch on the spirit of the performer. Dance Aware likes to work from the inside to the out” explains Michael Mitchell, Artistic Director of Dance Aware. Moving The Line runs from 4th – 25th October 2008 in the Gallery at Faith House, Holton Lee, Poole from 11am – 4pm daily.
